Beijing. Tensions between the US and China increased once more when US fighter jets came too close to Shanghai. In the past week, both countries have closed each other’s consulates. Chinese officials have been forcibly evicted from the embassy in the US city of Houston. According to media reports on Monday, the US Navy’s P-8A anti-submarine aircraft and EP-3E aircraft were flying over the Taiwan Strait on Sunday.
This airspace is near the Zhejiang and Fujian coasts of China. Shanghai Metropolis of China is located close to both beaches. American fighter jets flew to 76.5 kilometers close to Shanghai for a few minutes. This brought the Chinese air security system into action and left the Air Force speechless. But within a few minutes the situation returned to normal.
The Peking University think tank South China Sea Strategic Situation Probation Initiative tweeted about this Sunday morning, just after the passing of American aircraft. The organization tweeted again at night and informed about the return of American aircraft. This news became the headline of local newspapers on Monday. For the first time in recent decades, no American fighter aircraft has come so close to China. As the two countries are currently under stress on several issues and the US Navy’s activity in the Indo-Pacific Ocean has increased, the US aircraft moving closer to China is much discussed.
Significantly, these days the United States is at loggerheads with China and Russia. The US is particularly upset with the outbreak of Coronavirus from China, after which the United States is even more annoyed at its intention to take over other countries and tell South Chine Xi to be its own. The US has deployed several of its warships in South China Xi to teach China a lesson. This has increased stress.
