Sri Lankan Team Beat Zimbabwe By 10 Wickets, Angelo Mathews Smashes Double Century

New Delhi Zimbabwe vs Sri Lanka 1st Test: The Sri Lankan team is playing a two-match Test series in Zimbabwe hosting the team. In the first match of this Test series, the visiting team Sri Lanka defeated the Zimbabwean team. On the basis of Angelo Mathews’ double century, the Sri Lankan team won by 10 wickets against the hosts and took a 1-0 lead in the Test series.

In this match played in Harare, the host Zimbabwe team captain Sean Williams won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 358 runs losing all wickets in the first innings. In response, the visiting team Sri Lanka, batting 176.2 overs in the first innings, scored 515 runs losing 9 wickets and declared the innings. In this way, the Sri Lankan team had a lead of 157 runs, but Zimbabwe’s team was all out early in the second innings as well.

In the first innings from the Sri Lankan team, experienced batsman Angelo Mathews scored an unbeaten 200 runs off 468 balls with the help of 16 fours and 3 sixes. This is the first double century of Matthews’ Test career which came from a strikerate of 42.74. Apart from Mathews, Kusal Mendis scored 80, Dhananjay DeSilva and Niroshan Dikwela scored 63-63 to take their team to 500.

After giving Sri Lanka a 157-run lead, Zimbabwe’s team collapsed for 170 runs in the second innings. In such a situation, the Sri Lankan team got the target of just 14 runs, which was achieved in 3 overs by the Sri Lankan team headed by Dimuth Karunaratne. In the first innings for Sri Lanka, Lasith Embuldeniya took 5 wickets, Suranga Lakmal took 3 and Lahiru Kumara took 2 wickets. At the same time, in the second innings Lakmal took 4, Lahiru Kumara took 3 and Embuldeniya took 2 wickets.
