Actress Swatilekha no more, close relationship with Prayagraj

Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee famous Bengali actress Swatilekha Sen Gupta is no more.

He breathed his last at a private hospital in Kolkata on Wednesday. Expressing grief over his death, the city’s artists, color organizations have paid a humble tribute to him.

Originally born in Allahabad itself and from here Swatilekha Haldar, who started her theater work, had a close relationship with her. She joined the Nandikar Sanstha in Kolkata.

Swatilekha, the wife of renowned color director Rudra Prasad Sen Gupta, worked in theater as well as in Bengali films under the direction of filmmaker Satyajit Ray.

In addition to the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for acting, he was also awarded the Paschim Banga Natya Academy.

The last successful performance of a solo play under his direction was held at the Bharat Banga Mahotsav.

He had expressed his condolences through a virtual medium in the tribute meeting held on the death of Kalyan Kumar Ghosh in the past.

He had acted in several plays including Justice Palok Basu under the direction of Anukul Chandra Banerjee with Kalyan Ghosh.

Theater workers paid tribute

Parallel Theater Secretary Color Director Anil Ranjan Bhowmik said, “I came several times from Kolkata to Allahabad to act with her crew Nandikar. Allahabad resided in his every breath.

Whenever she went to Kolkata, she used to meet here regularly and she used to ask very excitedly about the color karma here.

On the other hand, director Praveen Shekhar said, “Backstage’s mentor Swati Di was not only a successful actress but also had leadership skills.

Sometimes maternal, sometimes colorwork and sometimes he kept coming and going here to attend seminars. When she met him in Kolkata in January, she kept inquiring about Prayagraj’s well-being throughout the meeting.
