Los Angeles, PTI. Astronomers have observed strange gas-like objects close to a large black hole in the center of our Milky Way ‘Milky Way’. This is a discovery that can further expand our understanding of the forces that make stars and other celestial bodies in the universe.
Andia Gage of the University of California, Los Angeles in the US said, “These objects look gaseous, but in practice they are like stars. According to a study published in the journal Nature, new objects appear in groups most of the time and seem to drag them outward when their orbit draws them closest to a dense black hole. These objects take about 100 to 1,000 years to complete their orbit around a black hole called Sagittarian A.
We had seen it before, Gage said, but it didn’t look so strange then. When it got closer to the black hole, it got longer and its gas leaked out and merged into the black hole, but now it is away from the black hole, it is back to its precursor.
Special signature
In previous research astronomers identified two unusual objects at the center of the Milky Way, which they named G1 and G2, and were collectively named the G object. They believe that the G2 may be two stars orbiting black holes in tandem and merged into a larger star, which was covered in thick gas and dust. On continuously monitoring the G2, astronomers found that it also has a special type of signature, which makes it easy to identify.
