BJP MP Gautam Gambhir said on Sunday that he always felt at home in West Bengal.
BJP leader and former cricketer Gambhir will start campaigning for the party in Bengal from 22 March. He will campaign for the party in elections for all eight phases in Bengal and three phases of Assam.
This will be the first major election campaign for the BJP outside Delhi by Gambhir, Lok Sabha MP from East Delhi.
Earlier, he had gone to campaign for former hockey player Sandeep Singh during the Haryana Assembly elections last year.
He had planned to go to Jammu and Kashmir for the District Development Council elections in December 2020 but this could not be possible.
Gambhir said that he was deeply saddened by the statement by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in which she described BJP as an external party and said that it has no place in the state.
He said that he never felt for a moment that he was an outsider even if he was not born somewhere in Kolkata or Bengal,
or studied at Presidency College or Jadavpur University, or did not eat egg rolls from Park Street.
Whenever he came here he was always loved and blessed like a family in Bengal.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the IPL title twice under Gambhir’s captaincy and he has a large section of young fans in the state.

Won World Cup under professional responsibility – Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir believes that people should not be too keen on the World Cup victories of the past as the players
who participated in the tournament tried their best and did so under their professional responsibility.
Gambhir, who was also the top scorer during India’s victory in the World T20 2007 final, said, “In 2011, we did not do anything that we should not have done.
We were selected to play in the World Cup, we had to win the World Cup.
When we were selected, we were not just selected to play in the tournament, we were down to win.
He said, ‘As far as I am concerned, there is no such feeling left now. We did not do any extraordinary work,
yes we made the country proud, people were happy, now it is time to focus on the next World Cup.
